Projektbeschreibung

Abstract

The overall goal of InTribology1 is to drive industrial innovations through customized solutions by means of transdisciplinary application of information and digital technologies in tribological research and engineering. InTribology1 will revolutionize the process of designing and validating tribological systems through data-driven methods, thereby enabling customized solutions and fostering industrial innovation in European and in particular, Austrian industry, and lead tribology into an era of digital transformation. InTribology1 has a high potential to contribute significantly to an important global challenge: decarbonization. This has been demonstrated on European level, e.g., with the commitment planned by the European Parliament and Council to reduce new vehicle emissions between 2021 and 2030 by 35%.
Project topics, goals and research activities are covered by the three application-oriented Areas: Friction Optimized Devices (Area 1), Wear Reduction Strategies for Industry (Area 2), and Sustainable Lubrication (Area 3). The Strategic Area is called Synaptic Tribology (Area 4).
The collaboration with renowned international partners has led to an appreciable increase in the internationalization and international visibility in the past. Co-operations with existing partners will be intensified and new ones established, enhancing the overall competences of the Centre, especially towards the direction of artificial intelligence and statistics in order to reach the ambitious objectives of InTribology1. The consortium of InTribology1 consists of national and international, scientific partners (56 research groups of 43 organizations, thereof 29 international) and company partners (53 organizations, thereof 18 international). The proposed contributions of partners are significantly higher than those necessary for the project budget. This demonstrates the importance of InTribology1 for the partners to intensify research at the Centre. The total proposed budget for InTribology1 is about 43.6 M€ based on a monetary public funding of 55%. During the funding period, AC²T will employ at least 125 persons (equal to 107 full time equivalent), thereof one fifth female scientists and one third with an international background.
AC²T is located at the “Research and Technology Center Wiener Neustadt” with about 4,000 square metres of office and laboratory space. Outstanding R&D infrastructure has been built up to successfully perform the research projects within the ongoing funding project XTribology.
This Centre is supported by the provinces of Niederösterreich and Vorarlberg.
The AC²T organization and management staff is well experienced in successfully running an R&D centre and has shown sustainable operation for more than 15 years.
This project meets the challenge of integrating the knowledge of digitalization to add significant value to research in tribology. Thus, the Centre strengthens Austria and Europe in general as a place of research, development, and production.
