Ausgangssituation und Motivation
Kleine und mittlere Unternehmen, Mid-Caps sowie Organisationen des öffentlichen Sektors stehen vor erheblichen Herausforderungen bei der Einführung und Skalierung von Künstlicher Intelligenz (KI), IoT und datengetriebenen Technologien. Insbesondere fehlen häufig strukturierte Zugänge zu Kompetenzen, Testumgebungen, Finanzierung sowie zu ethisch und rechtlich abgesicherten Innovationsprozessen, die für eine nachhaltige und menschenzentrierte digitale Transformation erforderlich sind.
Ziele und Innovationsgehalt
Crowd in Motion – AI (CIMO-AI) ist ein European Digital Innovation Hub unter der Leitung der Salzburg Research Forschungsgesellschaft (SRFG), der diese Herausforderungen adressiert. Aufbauend auf den Ergebnissen der ersten EDIH-Phase (2023–2025) verfolgt CIMO-AI das Ziel, seine geografische Reichweite und Wirkung über Österreich hinaus zu skalieren. Der Hub bietet rund 80 bedarfsgerechte Services entlang aller digitalen Reifegrade mit besonderem Fokus auf KI-Anwendungen, Test-before-Invest-Umgebungen, Qualifizierungsmaßnahmen sowie auf den verbesserten Zugang zu Finanzierungsinstrumenten. Der Innovationsgehalt liegt in der integrierten Verbindung von KI-Expertise, offenen Innovations- und Crowd-basierten Ansätzen sowie der systematischen Berücksichtigung von Ethik, Compliance und Nachhaltigkeit.
Angestrebte Ergebnisse und Wirkungen
CIMO-AI stützt sich auf ein interdisziplinäres Konsortium aus angewandter Forschung, Hochschulen, Innovationsintermediären, KI- und Compliance-Expert:innen, Data-Space-Spezialist:innen und Finanzierungsakteuren. Ziel ist der nachhaltige Kompetenzaufbau, der Transfer von Forschung in die Anwendung sowie die Skalierung regionaler Innovationen in europäische Wertschöpfungsketten. CIMO-AI leistet damit einen substantiellen Beitrag zur EU-Digital-Dekade 2030, zum Green Deal und zur Twin-Transition-Agenda und fungiert als Zugangspunkt zum europäischen KI-Ökosystem, einschließlich EDIHs, Testing and Experimentation Facilities und AI Factories.

Crowd in Motion – AI (CIMO-AI) is a leading European Digital Innovation Hub led by SRFG that empowers SMECrowd in Motion – AI (CIMO-AI) is a leading European Digital Innovation Hub that empowers SMEs, mid-caps and public sector organisations in tourism, mobility, sports and wellness to unlock the transformative potential of AI, IoT and crowd-based technologies. Building on its success in the first EDIH phase (2023–2025), CIMO-AI will expand its geographical coverage to scale its impact across Austria & beyond with 80 tailored services with a renewed focus on AI, intensified access to finance support, extensive upskilling & test-before-invest environments tailored with coverage for every digital maturity level. Supported by a thriving open innovation community of 21,000+ participants, the hub facilitates human-centric & green digital transition rooted in regional strengths & aligned with EU priorities.
CIMO-AI’s consortium, spanning experienced and knowledgeable applied research institutes, universities, innovation intermediaries, lAI compliance experts, network nodes, data space specialists and (crowd-)finance experts, ensures full-spectrum expertise in AI, data interoperability, ethics, compliance, and sustainable/ human-centred innovation. Together, they advocate citizen engagement, knowledge transfer, capacity building and cross-border cooperation to implement the twin transition.
CIMO-AI directly advances the EU’s Digital Decade 2030, the Green Deal, and the twin transition agenda by strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, supporting ethical AI adoption and scaling regional innovations into European success stories via its targeted upscaling mechanisms. As a gateway to Europe’s AI ecosystem, including TEFs, AI Factories and its extensive EDIH network, CIMO-AI ensures that every innovator, from a rural SME to a smart city administration, can access the skills, tools, infrastructure, funding and networks needed to thrive in a digital, green and resilient Europe.
