Responsible Safe Mobility for Traffic Reduction

Projektbeschreibung

Viele Frauen fühlen sich unsicher, wenn sie an Park & Ride-Stationen warten, mit Fremden mitfahren oder nachts den öffentlichen Verkehr nutzen. Laut Studien empfinden drei von fünf Frauen den Weg zwischen Wohnung und Haltestelle als besonders unsicher (Loukaitou-Sideris, 2009). Diese Unsicherheit führt dazu, dass nachhaltige Mobilitätsoptionen wie Mitfahren unattraktiver werden.

Das Projekt REDUCE (REliable Safe Mobility for Women and Traffic ReDUCtion through RidE Sharing) untersucht, wie diese subjektiven Sicherheitsbedenken beim Mitfahren adressiert werden können.

Das Ziel des Projektes ist es, ein starkes Sicherheitsempfinden speziell für Frauen innerhalb einer Mitfahr-Community und bei intermodalen Wegen mit Abholpunkten und ÖV-/P&R-Umstiegsstellen zu schaffen - damit Fahrgemeinschaften zu fördern und Verkehr zu vermeiden. Dadurch werden auch Versorgungsprobleme betreffend Mobilität - vor allem im ländlichen Raum – minimiert. Das Konzept des Mitfahrens kann hier als Schlüssel zur Lösung erachtet werden.

Das REDUCE-Projekt geht mit seinen sozialen, technischen und Umstiegsstellen-relevanten Innovationen weit über den aktuellen State-of-the-Art hinaus. Es zielt darauf ab, spezifische Sicherheitsbedürfnisse von Frauen zu adressieren, indem es beispielsweise folgende Punkte integriert:

• innovative Technologien wie die Klassifizierung von Umstiegsstellen
• die Organisation entscheidungsrelevanter Aspekte wie der Rückfahrten
• die Darstellung von für Frauen relevanten Profilinformationen (Erweitertes Fahrerrating - "DOMINO Safe Driver")
• die Möglichkeit von zusätzlichen KYC (Know Your Customer) Prozessen auf Basis von Identitätsverifizierungslösungen wie z.B. der Anbindung an ID Austria als Sicherheitstool
• die Optimierung von Kommunikationsflüssen und Darstellungen
• sowie partizipative Ansätze in die Entwicklung einer Mitfahr-App für eine hohe Akzeptanz

Das angestrebte Ergebnis von REDUCE ist die Reduktion von Verkehr durch mehr Fahrgemeinschaften von Frauen. Um das zu erreichen, werden Frauen in den gesamten Forschungsprozess integriert, Umstiegsstellen werden nach Sicherheitskriterien klassifiziert und verändert, die DOMINO App verbessert und zielgruppenspezifische Kommunikationsmaßnahmen umgesetzt.
Die nachhaltige wirtschaftliche Verwertung wird durch die Betreiber der DOMINO App und die Beratungstätigkeit aller Partner sichergestellt, während die Projektergebnisse und -erkenntnisse national und international (Mitfahrverband) disseminiert werden.

Das REDUCE-Konsortium deckt alle notwendigen Rollen für eine erfolgreiche Projektumsetzung ab und besteht aus: FH OÖ (Logistikum) - Projektleitung, Fluidtime, POINT& und Irene Fuchs; Drittleister: Stefanie Pichler (genderspezifisches Design), David Knapp (Verkehrsplanung) und Mathias Ganspöck (Architektur). LOI-Partner: ASFINAG, Business Upper Austria, goFlux Mobility GmbH, Land NÖ, Land OÖ, Mitfahrverband, Monika Scherfer, ÖAMTC OÖ und RMOÖ.

Abstract

Many women feel unsafe when waiting at Park & Ride stations, carpooling with strangers, or using public transport at night. According to studies, three out of five women perceive the route between their home and the station as particularly unsafe (Loukaitou-Sideris, 2009). This insecurity makes sustainable mobility options, such as carpooling, less attractive.

The REDUCE project (REliable Safe Mobility for Women and Traffic ReDUCtion through RidE Sharing) explores ways to address these subjective safety concerns in carpooling.

The project's goal is to create a strong sense of security, particularly for women, within a carpooling community and for intermodal journeys involving pick-up points and public transport/P&R transfer stations. By doing so, the project aims to promote carpooling and reduce traffic. Additionally, it helps mitigate mobility-related supply issues, especially in rural areas. In this context, carpooling can be considered a key solution.

The REDUCE project goes far beyond the current state of the art with its social and technical innovations, particularly related to transfer stations. It aims to address the specific safety needs of women by integrating the following aspects:
• Innovative technologies, such as the classification of transfer stations
• The organization of decision-relevant aspects, such as the planning of return trips
• The display of profile information relevant to women (enhanced driver rating – "DOMINO Safe Driver")
• The possibility of additional Know Your Customer (KYC) processes based on identity verification solutions, such as integration with ID Austria as a security tool
• The optimization of communication flows and information presentation
• Participatory approaches in the development of a carpooling app to ensure high acceptance

The expected outcome of REDUCE is a reduction in traffic by increasing female carpooling participation. To achieve this, women are actively involved in the entire research process, transfer stations are classified and modified according to safety criteria, the DOMINO app is improved, and targeted communication measures are implemented.

Sustainable economic exploitation is ensured through the operators of the DOMINO app and the advisory activities of all project partners, while project results and findings are disseminated nationally and internationally (Mitfahrverband).
