Projektbeschreibung

Abstract

Monitoring of built infrastructure as a means to boost safety, enhance the lifespan and reduce the life-cycle cost of buildings and structures in general is one of the biggest challenges for a sustainable development in modern society. The extent of urbanization as well as the high energy and resource demand of the construction sector (>40% of resource consumption, >30% of waste arisings, approx. 30% of climate relevant emissions) ask for significant improvements in the maintenance of buildings and structures and at the same time allow for important contributions towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 11 and 13.
Introducing the radical innovation of the AI-assisted digital building inspection the core-partners of the applying consortium created the basis for a digital transformation in the inspection business in the construction sector (world market 40 Mrd. USD/a). This also enabled a world-wide roll-out of said technology for armoured concrete structures via the STRUCINSPECT.com Plattform (PSI, P3) that is already operative (State Prize for Digitization 2020).
The substitution of the ordinary building inspection by the AI-assisted digital building inspection will be the main success-factor for the break-through. The founders of STRUCINSPECT will strengthen their position by further development of data-capture technologies within the project Sensors4StrucInspect.
For the break-through verification of equivalency must be provided for:
 extending existing data capture opportunities for armoured concrete with data capture methods for concrete strength and local separation as well as chlorine equivalent and carbonation based on own development of sensors (P4, P5)
 extension of the scope of application of AI-assisted digital building inspection to
o building faces by sensors that capture mounting defects of façade elements
o steel structures by sensors for the lamination strength of protective coating
o wood structures by sensors for wood strength and wood moisture
by complementing the sensor-portfolio based on technology-scouting and integration on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The verification of equivalency will be achieved through an intensive stakeholder-dialogue (see LOI`s) as well es extensive field tests.
A hackathon for building data capture as well as the dialogue via the STRUCINSPECT platform community are open innovation elements supporting the technological disruption for remaining development needs for sensors and the carrier platform UAV – the focus of Sensors4StrucInspect – and thereby secure sustained economic growth of the SME in the consortium based on the world wide roll-out of the AI-assisted digital building inspection via the STRUCINSPECT platform.
