Projektbeschreibung

Abstract

The municipality of Lilienfeld is the district capital and plays a central role in regional supply and coordination in the event of a crisis. Lilienfeld Abbey has its own hydroelectric power plant, its own heating plant, and its own water supply. Thanks to the integration of an innovative energy system (HyperCap), it is able to provide the population with electricity, heat, and water in large premises in the event of a crisis or blackout.

As part of the KIRAS project, an innovative hybrid energy and storage system is to be integrated into the electricity distribution network of Lilienfeld Abbey at the existing hydroelectric power plant. The aim is to ensure the security of supply and resilience of critical infrastructure even during prolonged power outages. To this end, HydroSolid will implement a prototype that combines short-term electrical storage (battery) with long-term low-pressure chemical storage based on HydroSolid's patented hydrogen storage technology in the form of green hydrogen. If necessary, green hydrogen can be converted back into electrical energy, thus enabling a self-sufficient emergency power supply for critical consumption. In combination with the existing heating plant, the heat supply to central buildings can also be maintained.

The project partners are Stift Lilienfeld, which operates the infrastructure, and HydroSolid GmbH, the technology partner for the hybrid storage and energy system. The project is supported by the municipality of Lilienfeld and the volunteer fire department, particularly with regard to its use in emergencies and its practical integration into existing operational and emergency plans.

The project will examine technical integration, the interaction between hydropower, storage, and heating plants, as well as safety and operational issues.

The Lilienfeld Abbey site serves as a demonstration and reference site for resilient energy supply in district capitals. The knowledge gained and the HyperCap module should be transferable to other critical infrastructure sites and make a significant contribution to increasing crisis resilience.
