Projektbeschreibung
Abstract
The FlexCSAR project aims to demonstrate the technical feasibility, broad economic
competitiveness, and near-term commercial potential of the flexible Continuous Swing
Adsorption Reactor (FlexCSAR) for sorbent-based post-combustion CO2 capture. FlexCSAR
features a high degree of flexibility to integrate any available low- or zero-cost heat in a highly
efficient manner and supply the balance with a synergistic combination of electrically powered
heat and vacuum pumps. Furthermore, FlexCSAR offers the possibility to dynamically switch
between heat and electricity consumption depending on market price signals. The project will demonstrate the FlexCSAR concept at TRL6 with the most suitable sorbent currently available, map out its economic competitiveness against relevant benchmarks over a broad range of industrial applications, develop concrete business cases for commercialization in the early 2030ies, develop tools for rapid and efficient scale-up to capitalize on these business opportunities, and identify and address any socio-environmental barriers. In meeting these objectives, FlexCSAR will deliver a competitive solution across many applications in the energy-
and energy intensive industry sectors, including the hard-to-abate sectors mentioned in the call, thereby making a large contribution to the CETP goal of reaching climate neutrality by 2050. In
alignment with the call, the FlexCSAR project respects the urgency of climate action through a strong focus on rapid scale-up and implementation in the 2030ies.
