Projektbeschreibung

Böden spielen eine zentrale Rolle für wichtige Ökosystemleistungen wie Biomasseproduktion, Wasser- und Nährstoffkreisläufe, Klimaregulierung und Biodiversität. In Österreich verfügbare Bodendaten aus verschiedenen Quellen (Bund, Bundesländer, Forschungsprojekte) sowie zusätzliche relevante Daten (z.B. Klimadaten, Geodaten) sind die Grundlage zur Bewertung des aktuellen Bodenzustandes und seiner Entwicklung sowie die Erfüllung der Bodenfunktionen. Die Harmonisierung und zentrale Vernetzung dieser Daten kann wesentlich zur Verbesserung des Informationsstandes für die Forschung und weitere Datennutzer:innen beitragen. Weiters können damit Berichtspflichten (z.B. EU Soil Monitoring Law) entsprechend erfüllt werden. Im aktuellen FFG-Antrag für ein „Austrian Soil Data Center“ (ASDaC) wird eben dies angestrebt. Die AGES soll als Host eines zentralen Data Hub fungieren, in dem alle relevanten Bodendaten zusammenlaufen, mit weiteren Daten verknüpft werden und als Basis für unterschiedliche Auswertungen dienen.
Der Data Steward (DS) des BFW ist in die Entwicklung des Data Hub und in die Entwicklung und Implementierung der Schnittstelle der BFW – Bodendaten (eBod, DB GEA) zum Data Hub eingebunden. Wesentliches Augenmerk gilt dabei der Qualitätskontrolle der Daten.
Für das Front End des Data Hub erfolgt die Mitarbeit an der Konzeption und Implementierung einerseits von Schnittstellen für weitere Datenurheber:innen, andererseits von Tools zur Datenselektion und -präsentation, federführend bei Tools zur Datenvisualisierung.
Nach der Etablierung des Data Hub und aller Tools wird der DS des BFW den laufenden Betrieb, die Datenpflege, die Instandhaltung und Aktualisierung der Datenschnittstellen des BFW in Abstimmung mit der IT-Abteilung des BFW betreuen. Dazu zählt auch die Rolle als Ansprechstelle für Anfragen in Bezug auf das Bodendaten des BFW in ASDaC. Alle Aufgaben sollen in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den von den Konsortialpartnern des Projekts ASDaC beantragten Data Stewards durchgeführt werden. Es ist vorgesehen, den Data Steward nach Ablauf des Projekts in den Personalstand des BFW zu übernehmen, um den weiteren erfolgreichen Betrieb und die Aktualisierung des ASDaC zu gewährleisten.

Abstract

Soils play a key role for important ecosystem services such as biomass production, water and nutrient cycles, climate regulation and biodiversity. Soil data available in Austria from various sources (federal government, federal states, research projects) as well as additional relevant data (e.g. climate data, geodata) are the basis for assessing the current soil condition and its development as well as the fulfilment of soil functions. The harmonisation and central networking of this data can make a significant contribution to improving the level of information for research and other data users. Furthermore, reporting obligations (e.g. EU Soil Monitoring Law) can be fulfilled accordingly. This is precisely the aim of the current FFG application for an ‘Austrian Soil Data Centre’ (ASDaC). AGES is to act as the host of a central data hub in which all relevant soil data can be collated and linked with other data to serve as a basis for further processing.
The Data Steward (DS) of BFW is involved in both the development and implementation of the Data Hub and the interface to the BFW soil data (eBod, DB GEA). An important focus here is on data quality control.
For the front end of the Data Hub, he is involved in the design and implementation of interfaces for other data providers on the one hand, and tools for data selection, visualisation (leading) and presentation on the other.
Once the Data Hub and all tools have been established, the DS, in coordination with the organisational units of BFW responsible for IT and data management, will be responsible for ongoing operation, maintenance and updating of the interface from BFW soil data to the Data Hub. This also includes the role of contact point for enquiries relating to the soil data of BFW within ASDaC. All tasks are to be carried out in close co-operation with the data stewards requested by the consortium partners of the ASDaC project. It is planned to transfer the data steward to the staff of BFW at the end of the project to ensure the continued successful operation and updating of the ASDaC.
