Projektbeschreibung
"Advanced Materials" und die Teilmenge der Nanomaterialien ermöglichen durch gezielten, regulierten Einsatz die Verbesserung und Optimierung medizinischer Anwendungen bzw. von Medizinprodukten. Die besonderen Effekte, die diese Materialien an der Oberfläche von bestimmten Produkten bewirken, eröffnet neue Möglichkeiten der besseren Behandlung von Patienten. Die damit einhergehenden möglichen Risiken sollen durch entsprechend angepasste Regulierungen kontrolliert werden und folglich für Mensch und Umwelt einen überwiegend vorteilhaften Einsatz von Advanced Materials (AdMa) und Nanomaterialien (NM) erreichen. Im Projekt AdMa4Med wird (i) die Relevanz der MDR für AdMa sowie NM identifiziert, (ii) entlang der Wertschöpfungskette die Sicherheit von AdMa in Medizinprodukten untersucht sowie die Anwendbarkeit der MDR evaluiert, und (iii) Empfehlungen bzw. eventueller Handlungsbedarf für Unternehmen und die öffentliche Hand abgeleitet.
Abstract
"Advanced materials" and the subset of nanomaterials enable the improvement and optimization of medical applications or medical devices through targeted, regulated use. The special effects that these materials produce on the surface of certain products open up new possibilities for better treatment of patients. The associated potential risks should be controlled by appropriately adapted regulations, to consequently achieve a predominantly beneficial use of advanced materials (AdMa) and nanomaterials (NM) for humans and the environment. In the AdMa4Med project, (i) the relevance of the MDR for AdMa and NM will be identified, (ii) the safety of selected AdMa in medical devices will be investigated along the value chain and the applicability of the MDR will be evaluated, and (iii) recommendations or possible need for action for companies and the public sector will be derived.
