Die 4. Industrielle Revolution und die damit einhergehenden disruptiven Veränderungen und technologischen Entwicklungen stellen die verarbeiten-de Industrie weltweit vor große Herausforderungen. Innovation, Agilität und umfangreiche Investitionen in Wissen und fortschrittliche Fertigungstechno-logie sind für europäische Organisationen notwendig, um global wettbe-werbsfähig zu sein. Die verarbeitende Industrie ist der Schlüssel zu wirt-schaftlicher, sozialer und ökologischer Nachhaltigkeit in Europa. 2018 wurde mit Unterstützung des Europäischen Instituts für Innovation und Technologie (EIT) die Wissens- und Innovationsgemeinschaft „EIT Manufacturing“ ge-schaffen, um die führenden Akteure der verarbeitenden Industrie in Europa in einer interdisziplinären Community zu vernetzen und so einen Mehrwert für europäische Produkte, Prozesse und Dienstleistungen zu kreieren. Das Co-Location Center (CLC) East in Wien koordiniert als Innovationshub die Aktivitäten von EIT Manufacturing in 12 Ländern in Zentral- und Osteuropa.
Die österreichische Industrielandschaft ist stark geprägt von kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen (KMU), deren Zukunftsfähigkeit wesentlich von ihrer Innovationsfähigkeit abhängt, welche oft durch fehlende Kompetenzen auf-grund von Ressourcenmangel beeinträchtigt ist. Die Vernetzung und Koope-ration mit Stakeholdern der verarbeitenden Industrie in Europa ist ein integ-raler Lösungsansatz, um heimische Innovationen zu forcieren. Der Zugang zu solchen Wissensgemeinschaften ist für KMU oft mit großen Hürden ver-bunden.
EIT MIT.IC.AT unterstützt die Integration österreichischer Unternehmen in die Initiativen und Aktivitäten von EIT Manufacturing, um Innovationen in der verarbeitenden Industrie in Österreich zu fördern. Die Vernetzung der Sta-keholder, die Zurverfügungstellung von relevanten europäischen Best Prac-tice Beispielen sowie die Initiierung von Kooperationen und zielgerichteten Weiterbildungsmaßnahmen stärken die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der österrei-chischen produzierenden Industrie, insbesondere der KMU, und stellen ge-zielten Wissenstransfer sicher. Durch Nutzung bestehender Infrastrukturen und Unterstützung regionaler und nationaler Netzwerke, wie etwa Cluster, Digital Innovation Hubs oder Regionalagenturen, etabliert EIT MIT.IC.AT eine stark vernetzte österreichische Gemeinschaft für die heimische produ-zierende Unternehmen und erleichtert diesen den Zugang zu Partnern, Pro-jekten und Forschungseinrichtungen in Europa.
Zudem werden durch diese Maßnahmen die Innovationsfähigkeit der öster-reichischen verarbeitenden Industrie stimuliert, die Kooperationsintensität gestärkt sowie der Zugang zu europäischem branchen- und sektorübergrei-fendem Know-How sichergestellt. Dies führt in weiterer Folge zu vermehrter Digitalisierung, erhöhter Produktivität, sowie gesteigerter Schonung der Ressourcen und trägt damit zu einer nachhaltigen Produktion bei.

Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution and its disruptive changes and technologi-cal developments are a big challenge for the manufacturing industry world-wide. Innovation, agility and comprehensive investments in knowledge and advanced production technologies are necessary for European organiza-tions to stay globally competitive. Manufacturing is the key for economic, social, and ecological sustainability in Europe. In 2018, the European Insti-tute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) supported the establishment of the Knowledge and Innovation Community “EIT Manufacturing” to connect the leading actors of the European manufacturing industry in innovation ecosys-tems that add unique value to European products, processes, and services. The Co-Location Center (CLC) East in Vienna acts as an innovation hub and coordinates the activities of EIT Manufacturing in 12 countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
The industrial landscape in Austria is shaped by small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), whose future viability depends on their innovation ca-pacity. This capacity is often affected by missing competences caused by a lack of resources. The connection and cooperation with stakeholders in the European manufacturing industry is an integral solution to foster domestic innovation. Those knowledge communities, however, are often not easily accessible for SME.
To encourage manufacturing innovation in Austria, EIT MIT.IC.AT supports the integration of Austrian companies in the initiatives and activities of EIT Manufacturing. The interconnection of stakeholders, the provision of relevant best practices as well as the initiation of cooperation and targeted training and education measures strengthen the competitiveness of the Austrian manufacturing industry, especially for SME, and ensure knowledge transfer. By using existing infrastructure and the support of regional and national net-works, such as cluster, digital innovation hubs, or regional agencies, EIT MIT.IC.AT establishes a strongly connected Austrian manufacturing commu-nity and facilitates its access to partners, projects and research institutions in Europe.
These measures additionally stimulate the manufacturing innovation capaci-ty in Austria as well as secure the access to European know-how across industries. This leads to enhanced digitalization, increased productivity, and additional conservation of resources and thus to more sustainable manufacturing.
