Projektbeschreibung
Die Forschungsgruppe „Online und Pocket Labs“ (OuPL) der Fachhochschule Kärnten errichtet mit dem Projekt „Online-Labore für naturwissenschaftliche Aus- und Weiterbildung“ (OnLabEdu) ein Innovationslabor, welches das Angebot an Online-Laboren für die praktische naturwissenschaftliche Ausbildung an Österreichs Schulen in ihrer gesamten Breite erweitert und einen diskriminierungsfreien Zugang zu neuen Lerntechnologien über alle Schulstufen hinweg schafft.
Bei einem Online-Labor, oft auch Remote-Labor genannt, handelt es sich um eine real existierende Hardware-Infrastruktur, die zeit- und ortsunabhängig über das Internet ferngesteuert wird. In Forschung und Bildung können so Naturwissenschaft und Technik praxisnah vermittelt werden. Online-Labore bieten die Möglichkeit, klassische Laborübungen und Demonstrationen im Präsenzunterricht zu ergänzen oder ganz zu ersetzen. Auch in Abendschulen und -kursen können Online-Labore dazu dienen, trotz limitieren Zeitbudgets, wertvolle praktische Erfahrungen zu sammeln.
Die Entwicklung von Online-Laboren ist eine technisch hochkomplexe Aufgabe, die meist außerhalb der Möglichkeiten Lehrender liegt. Um für die österreichische Bildungsinnovations-Community einen Mehrwert zu schaffen, bedarf es einer Infrastruktur, welche ein breites Feld an naturwissenschaftlichen Themen abdeckt und allen Innovationsvorhaben im Bildungsbereich einen diskriminierungsfreien Zugang bietet. Das Innovationslabor ist bestrebt, den steigenden Bedarf an Distance Learning-Angeboten mit Online-Laboren zu decken und dabei nutzerzentrierte und altersgerechte Lernumgebungen zu entwickeln.
Das Projekt wird durch das „Zentrum für fachdidaktische Forschung in der naturwissenschaftlich-technischen Bildung“ (NATech) der Pädagogischen Hochschule Steiermark wissenschaftlich begleitet, um die Qualität hinsichtlich der didaktischen Aufbereitung von Lehrmaterialien sowie der didaktischen Strukturierung der Lernumgebungen basierend auf empirisch nachgewiesenen Lernendenperspektiven sicherzustellen.
Oberstes Ziel ist es, Online-Labore als dauerhaftes Lerninstrument an Österreichs Schulen zu etablieren und so auch über das Projektende hinaus ein attraktives Angebot für alle Schulstufen zur Verfügung zu stellen. Für Innovationsvorhaben eröffnet dieses Innovationslabor die Möglichkeit, sich auf didaktische Inhalte zu konzentrieren und technische Aspekte dem Innovationslabor zu überlassen.
Abstract
With the project “Online Labs for scientific education and training” (OnLabEdu, German: "Online-Labore für naturwissenschaftliche Aus- und Weiterbildung"), the research group “Online and Pocket Labs” (OuPL) at the Carinthia University of Apllied Sciences is establishing an innovation laboratory that will expand the range of online laboratories for practical science education in Austria's schools in its entire spectrum and create non-discriminatory access to new learning technologies across all school levels.
An online lab, often also called a remote lab, is a real hardware infrastructure that is controlled remotely via the Internet, independent of time and place. In research and education, science and technology can be taught in a practical way. Online labs offer the possibility of supplementing or completely replacing classic laboratory exercises and demonstrations in classroom teaching. Online labs can also be used in evening schools and courses to gain valuable practical experience despite limited time resources.
The development of online labs is a technically highly complex task that is mostly beyond the capabilities of teachers. In order to create added value for the Austrian educational innovation community, an infrastructure is needed that covers a broad range of scientific topics and offers non-discriminatory access to all educational innovation projects. The Innovation Lab strives to meet the increasing demand for distance learning offerings with online labs and developing user-centered and age-appropriate learning environments in the process.
The project is scientifically accompanied by the “Zentrum für fachdidaktische Forschung in der naturwissenschaftlich-technischen Bildung” (NATech, English: Center for Didactic Research in Science and Technology Education) of the University College of Teacher Education Styria to ensure quality with regard to the didactic preparation of teaching materials as well as the didactic structuring of learning environments based on empirically proven learner perspectives.
The primary goal is to establish online labs as a permanent learning tool at Austria's schools and thus provide an attractive offering for all school levels even beyond the end of the project. For innovation projects, this innovation lab opens up the possibility to focus on didactic content and leave technical aspects to the innovation lab.
