Projektbeschreibung

Abstract

The manufacturing of musical instruments, such as the popular "Styrian harmonica", is currently done in a traditional, conventional way ("carpentry craft") and integrates very slowly possibilities of new materials, manufacturing processes and digitalization, such as additive manufacturing ("3D printing"). However, the spectrum of sound generation and instrument mechanics - based on professional and private musicians - requires substantial further development with a strong focus on the diverse, often different and personalized requirements of customers, which is the goal of the "Quetschn2Future" project for the technical development of the instrument and its manufacturing technologies based on a consortium
• Schmidt Harmonikafertigung GmbH as a developer and manufacturer of Styrian harmonicas with a strong focus on innovation and digitization in manufacturing and product as well as a high market share in Austria and Germany
• Quetschn Academy GesbR as a service provider in the field of training (online music school for the Styrian harmonica) with D-A-CH market leadership and strong networking with customer requirements
• HARATECH GmbH as a highly innovative developer and small series manufacturer in the field of 3D printing with a strong focus on hybrid manufacturing processes (combination of conventional manufacturing and 3D printing) and functional integration through 3D printing
• Graz University of Art (Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics) as a university institute specializing in psychoacoustic research with full equipment for sound characterization and modeling
• into Projects as a service provider in the field of integrating open innovation strategies into previously conventional product development processes, as well
• JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH, Institute for Surface Technologies and Photonics as a third party with high expertise in applied R&D in the combination of 3D printing and surface technology (coating).

In addition to technical innovation and the digitization of the manufacturing process and the product selection (sound selection) by the user, the focus is on building a network for the integration of future market requirements and technologies (and thus partners), whereby in particular open innovation processes is used by integrating various expert groups from professional users to technology leaders . Through this network, there will be for the first time an open, extensively expandable platform for the active and continuous connection of music, handicraft and folk culture tradition with innovation in the field of material and manufacturing technology as well as the requirements of musicians and the music industry.
