Projektbeschreibung

Ausgangssituation:
Es wird prognostiziert, dass mehr als die Hälfte der Geschäftsprozesse und Systeme innerhalb der nächsten vier Jahre ein IoT-Element beinhalten werden. Durch das von der guh GmbH entwickelte IoT-Betriebssystem nymea wird das Risiko des IoT-Einstiegs für mittelständische Unternehmen signifikant reduziert und zudem ein wertvoller Zeitvorsprung gegenüber der Konkurrenz ermöglicht. Eines der wesentlichen Alleinstellungsmerkmale ist die direkt auf dem Gerät untergebrachte Intelligenz („embedded systems“) kombiniert mit einer Cloud-Vernetzung, um Updates und Wartungen zu gewährleisten und B2B-Kunden das Anbieten weiterer Services („application“, „apps“) zu ermöglichen. nymea kann außerdem individuell auf die Bedürfnisse von B2B-Kunden angepasst werden („customization“). Die guh GmbH wurde im Jahr 2016 gegründet, allerdings arbeiten die Gründer seit dem Jahr 2013 ausschließlich an der Realisierung von nymea. Es sind bereits mehr als 20 Personenjahre an kombinierter Entwicklerleistung in das Produkt geflossen.

Reifegrad des Prototyps und Darstellung der vorgesehenen Entwicklungstätigkeiten:
Der Prototyp des Betriebssystems nymea ist voll funktionsfähig und steht bereits als Open Source Software zur Verfügung. Es kann in diesem Status bereits in den Markt eingeführt werden und wird derzeit von einem Pilotkunden benutzt. Die Entwicklungsaktivitäten während der Markteinführung gliedern sich grundlegend in vier Bereiche: User Management, Cloud API Store, Cloud Paid-Service und Weiterentwicklung der Apps mit neuen Features. Es wird momentan auch massiv Feedback von Beta-UserInnen (besonderes ermöglicht durch die Open Source Verfügbarkeit) eingesammelt und das gesamte Ökosystem laufend aktualisiert und verbessert.

Darstellung der Aktivitäten im Bereich der Markteinführung:
Bei der Vermarktung des Projektes werden wir uns auf zwei Ziele fokussieren: Vertrieb und Marketing im Bereich Business-Kunden massiv ausbauen und die Open Source Community vergrößern. Im Bereich der Business-Kunden sind die folgenden Maßnahmen geplant: direkter B2B Verkauf und systematische Neukunden-Akquise, vertiefen von existierenden Kontakten durch Meetings und Workshops, die Teilnahme bei Events als auch umfassende Medienarbeit und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit. Im Bereich der Open Source Community ist das Ziel, möglichst viele DeveloperInnen dazu zu bewegen, zu unserem Open Source Ökosystem beizutragen um dadurch den Bekanntheitsgrad und die Reputation zu steigern, aber auch neue Kunden zu gewinnen.

Darstellung der angestrebten Ergebnisse:
Als ambitioniertes junges Team hat sich die guh GmbH hohe Ziele gesteckt und möchte im IoT-Bereich unter die Top-Player in Europa in den nächsten 5 Jahren gelangen. Als Ergebnis der Sales/Marketing-Aktivitäten erwarten wir, dass wir 30 vielversprechende Firmenkontakte pro Jahr erzielen und mindestens 2-3 neue langfristige Kunden pro Jahr gewinnen können. Hinsichtlich Open Source möchten wir eine relevante aktive Open Source Community etablieren.

Abstract

Initial situation:
It is forecasted that generally more than half of the business processes and systems will incorporate an IoT element within the next four years. The IoT operating system nymea developed by guh GmbH significantly reduces the risks of entering the IoT domain for medium-sized companies and enables them a valuable advantage compared to their competitors. One of nymea’s key selling points is the intelligence placed directly on the device (“embedded systems”) combined with cloud integration, which ensures updates and maintenance as well as enables B2B customers to offer additional services (“application”, “apps”). Besides, nymea can also be individually customized according to a B2B customers’ needs (“customization”). The guh GmbH was founded in 2016, but nevertheless, the founders have been working exclusively on the realization of nymea since 2013, thus investing more than 20 person years of developer work into the product.

Maturity of the prototype and description of designated development activities:
The prototype of the IoT operating system nymea is fully functional being already available as open source software. It can be launched in the market in this status and it is currently used by one pilot customer. The development activities during commercialization will be basically arranged into four areas: User Management, Continuous Integration Platform, Cloud-Paid Service and further development of apps with new features. Massive feedback from beta users (especially made possible due to the open source availability) is currently collected and the whole ecosystem is constantly updated and improved.

Description of the activities during commercialization:
In the commercialization phase of nymea, we will focus on two goals: massively expand sales and marketing in the B2B field, and enlarge the open source community. In the B2B field, the following activities are planned: direct B2B sales and systematic acquisition of new customers, intensification of existing contacts through meetings and workshops, participation in relevant events as well as extensive media work and public relations. Regarding the open source community, our goal is to thrill as many developers as possible to contribute to the ecosystem, thus improving our open source ecosystem, increasing awareness and reputation about it, but also attracting new customers.

Description of the desired results:
As an ambitious young team, the guh GmbH has set itself high aims and wants to be among the top players in the IoT sector in Europe within the next 5 years. As a result of the sales/marketing activities, we expect to establish at least 90 promising business contacts each year and gain at least 2-3 new long-term customers per year. Concerning open source we want to establish a stable and active open source community.
